4 Daagse Nijmegen (NL)

Our HQ marching team shortly before finishing succesfully the 94th 4 Daagse Nijmegen.

Every year, on the 3rd Tuesday in July the ‘Nijmeegse Vierdaagse’ starts. The 4-day long distance walk around Nijmegen in the Netherlands took place from Tuesday 20 through Friday 23 July.

Members of HQ, StSptBn and CISBn represented the 1 (GE/NL) Corps by marching four times 40 kilometres in the ‘walk of fame’. Every march is named after the biggest town it goes through. Tuesday is the day of Elst, on Wednesday participants are walking the day of Wijchen, Thursday is the day of Groesbeek and the final day Friday is called the day of Cuijk.

During the four days the soldiers stayed at the military camp Heumensoord, near Nijmegen. Former DCOM MajGen Harm De Jonge travelled to Nijmegen in order to support the marching team on Friday morning.

After four days of marching the soldiers received their well-deserved awards and Gladioli. It was a great achievement of the marching team, which demonstrated our multinational character and physical strength to the outer world.
