The main training-objective was to train assigned and affiliated formations and units of 1 (GE/NL) Corps, presenting the Combined Joint Forces Land Component Command (CJFLCC), in the full mission spectrum (low, medium and high intensity conflicts), in order to maintain operational capabilities.

Exercise JOINT SWORD was one of two main exercises of 1 (GE/NL) Corps in its CJFLCC role in 2006. It was linked to PEACE RIDER 1-2006. It was also be linked to the second main exercise JAGGED SWORD 2006, which was an FTX in the Netherlands.
