Mission

HQ 1 (German/Netherlands) Corps is a High Readiness Forces (Land) Headquarters (HRF(L) HQ). It is deployable within 20-30 days to command corps-sized land forces.
HQ 1 (German/Netherlands) Corps is a multi-national Corps HQ based in the beautiful city of Münster, Germany. Since mid 2002 the HQ is a High Readiness Forces (Land) HQ. This implies that it has to be ready to direct a military mission abroad after a preparation time of 20 to 30 days. Before, this HQ commanded the 1 (GE/NL) Corps, a successful co-operation between 1 (NL) Division and 2 (GE) Divisions. To this day the motto of the HQ is Communitate Valemus; 'Together we are Strong'.
Within the German-Netherlands framework, 70 slots of the Peace Establishment of the HQ is available for NATO and EU military personnel. Thus, working together with colleagues of different nationalities has become a common issue, which proved beneficial when commanding units from different countries for the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF III) in Kabul, Afghanistan from 10 February to 11 August 2003 and from July 2009 to February 2010.
Tasks

Meeting up with the high readiness standards HQ 1 (German/Netherlands) Corps now has the ability to conduct high intensity operations, crisis management and peace support operations, conducted in or outside NATO’s territory. Furthermore, the units assigned to and affiliated with this HQ are in a position to conduct humanitarian and other relief missions.
Support

Two subordinated battalions support the headquarters. A binational (GE/NL) Staff Support Battalion (StSptBn) is located near the HQ in Münster. One of the main tasks of this unit is to provide daily support to the HQ. Guarding, catering and transportation are some of their duties.
The other battalion, a Communication and Information Systems Battalion (CIS Bn) is located in the Dutch villages of Eibergen and Garderen. It provides mobile telecommunication and information systems, which are required for command and control and the decision-making process during operations.
